Q&A: Fishing tips for beginner mom.?

Question by njmommie: Fishing tips for beginner mom.?
This summer I am looking for fun things to do with my children. My husband works all day & hates fish and everything fishing. I remember as a kid I went fishing with my uncle and had some really fun times. That was “years” ago and I bearly remember anything. I do remember we used live bait I think it was called killies(sp?). I plan on buying us all some cheap fishing gear to start just to see how it goes before investing in the good equipment. We will go to New Jersey’s shoreline pier. Now for that area I am clueless as to what I’ll be fishing for as well as how even to tell the fish apart should I actuallu catch any. I am I’m pretty much looking for a lot of tips tricks & advice that would help us […] Continue Reading…

I have a male a female in a 55 gallon tank with some other fish. I was also wondering if there is anything that I can buy that will anchor the plants on one end of the tank so that they’re not just floating about. Any information would be appreciated.

We have a 3gallon pico reef, want a pico fresh/brackish as well..?

Question by Bluebear: We have a 3gallon pico reef, want a pico fresh/brackish as well..?
We want to feature a uncommon fish in a planted environment and are open to ideas. We’ve considered butterflyfish, leaf-fish, a puffer, anableps (get too big!) and killies. Keep in mind this is a 3gallon tank.

Answer by bettachrisall of those are too large for a 3 gallon…

if you like uncommon fish, try looking into a sparkling gourami for a 3 gallon, they are alittle rarer, and only grow about 1 inch.

i personally have had a male croaking gourami which is considered rare in the fish trade, in a 3 gallon with tons of live plants.

Again what you listed arent suitable for 3 gallons.

Edit: for brackish set-ups, bumblee bee gobys are suit able for a 3 gallon.

How to rig live fish for blues, having problems with blues taking my bait?

Question by Private A: How to rig live fish for blues, having problems with blues taking my bait?
Hey everyone. I use live killies and mullet as bait for blues. The problem I am having is….
When I hook the mullet by the mouth, the blues bite the tail off. If I hook it on the tail, then they will take the head off. When I hook it in the middle, they simply take the fish. When I use 2 hooks, they bite inbetween them. I use self-made steelon coated wire, and medium saltwater hooks. I always get a ton of hits, but they always take or destroy my bait. I do go home with a couple of fish, but if I had a catch on every hit, then I would easily fill my daily limit. Does anyone have a method to […] Continue Reading…
